Music Ministry

The place of music in the worship and life of believers has been one of prominence since the days of David. Then, as now, a particular group of skilled musicians and singers was selected to assist in the worship of God through excellence in music. The congregation looked upon this group as a leadership team committed to preparation and holiness. We believe that in order to have an effective music ministry, we must be willing to carry on this tradition.

Pastor Don Black leads this group of dedicated musicians and vocalists, and has been with Northside Ministries as Pastor of Music since 1991. Pastor Black is a 1985 graduate of Liberty University with a degree in Music Education. He sang for three and a half years with the LBN Singers on the Liberty Broadcasting Network and the "Old Time Gospel Hour" telecast.

Sanctuary Choir
The Northside Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir isthe foundation on which we strive tobuild a dynamic, evangelistic music ministry. Choir members meet for rehearsal every Thursday evening, 7:00-9:00 p.m. During that time, attention is given to learning exciting, God-centered music, which will lead in worship and point people to Jesus. In addition to Sunday morning music, the choir rehearses music for up-coming special services and productions such as Northside Live, Easter, and Christmas.

Music Groups
Along with the Sanctuary Choir, Northside also uses other smaller music groups to lead the congregation in worship. These groups provide flexibility and variety in special programs and worship services, as well as other outreach opportunities. Each group has its own personality and style and meets weekly for rehearsals.

Blended Worship
The apostle Paul writes, "Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God" (Colossians 3:16). Clearly the Scriptures advocate the use of a variety of different styles of worship music, both old and new.Musical tastes are as varied and unique as the individual and our desire is to reflect that diversity in our worship services

Stylistically our services may include anything from Urban Gospel to Southern Gospel and traditional hymns to contemporary praise and worship. Our goal is to design the worship experience to minister to as many different people as possible with music that speaks to the heart and ministers to the soul. In so doing we hope to bring the worshiper into the very presence of God, so that God may perform a mighty work, transforming each individual into His image.
