AWANA is a nationally known Bible club designed
for the local church to motivate boys and girls to memorize God's
Word and learn the truths of God's teaching. Three
main elements are used in this program.
The first element is
Handbook time. Each child involved in AWANA spends time memorizing
God's Word. Different awards are giving to help motivate individuals
to memorize.
The second element is
Game time. While many adults don't understand the importance
of this element, clubs that have chosen to eliminate this element
do not do well. For the younger kids, it is an outlet of energy.
It allows them to focus on the other two elements. For the older
kids, it is what draws them to AWANA. If the kids are not here,
chances are they are not memorizing scripture.
The third element is
Council time. This is when Bible truths are explained and
the gospel message is given.
Northside utilizes all three elements on Wednesday
evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Cubbies
— 3-year olds up to Kindergarten; Sparks
— Kindergarten through the 2nd grade; TNT
— 3rd through 6th grade; JV
— 7th and 8th grades; and 24-7 (formerly
known as Varsity) — 9th through 12th grades.
